Martha Karua takes on Jubilee over ‘mismanaged’ COVID-19 funds

Dr. Martha Karua

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua has come out to condemn the government over lack of transparency in how COVID-19 funds are being managed – By Gerald Gekara.

While appearing at a press briefing, the former Presidential aspirant demanded for accountability in order to ascertain that funds dedicated to fighting the coronavirus were being used appropriately.

“We demand FULL disclosure, transparency, and accountability for all COVID-19 funds, resources, and equipment from ALL sources including loans, grants, donations, and in-kind support both locally and internationally,” said Martha Karua.

She further demanded the immediate prosecution of those found culpable in the irregular mismanagement of funds directed at fighting COVID-19.

Dr. Martha Karua took a jab at the education Ministry for what she termed as mismanagement. She urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to draft stronger policies that would aid schools and students suffering from the postponement of the education calendar.

“We demand an immediate end to lack of leadership in the education ministry. Address the concern of parents about the future of education because we don’t believe that putting on hold the academic year is acceptable.” Said Dr. Karua.

She also demanded the government issue a cash transfer program to cushion the vulnerable in the society, while detailing a list of those who have been receiving the COVID-19 funds.

Martha Karua also urged the Ministry of Health to protect health workers by availing agreed salaries, protective equipment, and medical cover, in order to save the impasse.
