Moi University Ordered To Produce Comrade’s Degree Certificate

Oindi graduated from Karatina in 2014 and was awarded a degree but was not satisfied since he expected a degree from Moi.

A Karatina University graduate is relieved after the Supreme Court ordered Moi University to award him a degree certificate.

Zaippeline Oindi was admitted to Moi University in 2009 to study horticultural science & management but was transferred to Karatina Constituent College before it became a fully-fledged university in 2013.

Oindi graduated from Karatina in 2014 and was awarded a degree but was not satisfied since he expected a degree from Moi.

When he felt his rights were violated, he and 39 other students rushed to the High Court to reverse the decision.

His colleagues later withdrew from the case.

Justice James Wakiaga dealt him a blow when he ruled that his hopes to secure a degree from Moi were dashed when Karatina received a charter before he could graduate.

The judge noted Oindi had no contract with Moi University, and as such, he dismissed his petition.

Oindi moved to the Court of Appeal, where Chief Justice Martha Koome, who was serving at the court, then agreed with him that he should be awarded a degree from Moi.

The university appealed the ruling in the Supreme Court but lost the case.
