Mombasa Road Traffic Blamed On Overlapping Motorists

Hundreds of commuters were delayed for more than 10 hours Thursday night on Mombasa Road due to a significant traffic bottleneck on the segment.

Kenyans have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the situation, which they claim has worsened in recent days.

Because of the gridlock, the majority of them described how they arrived home in the morning, just in time for the next day’s job, and couldn’t sleep.

The contractor for the current Nairobi Expressway Project is being blamed by certain passengers.

In the midst of the outrage, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) claims that some passengers are to responsible for the section’s traffic problems.

“All motorists are urged to exercise caution as they are driving, keeping within the speed limit shown in the traffic signs and avoiding overlapping and lane indiscipline as this is a primary cause of traffic gridlock when it occurs,” KeHNA said.

Eng Muchilwa, who gave an update on the expressway’s development, said the route, which is expected to ease traffic flow through Nairobi, is making remarkable gains.

According to him, the elevated part (viaduct) is already 71.6 percent finished, while the operations and maintenance center, which will help monitor and maintain the road once it is open, is 90.3 percent finished.

“Most civil engineering construction works on the project are expected to be completed by December 2021.” He stated

KeNHA says well-sign-posted, in-good-working-order lanes will be made available for usage in regions where the project is being carried out to improve traffic flow.
