EAC Staff To Work From Home Over COVID-19 Fears

The East African Community (EAC) will work from their homes for a few days as one of the steps taken by the regional organization to protect its employees against Covid-19.

The majority of the personnel will work from home from Friday to Wednesday next week, according to Secretary-General Peter Mathuki.

“We’re not going anywhere. For a few days, we’ll be working digitally away from the EAC headquarters “He told The Citizen about it.

He explained that the decision was made by management to allow individuals who had been sick to recuperate as well as those who had not been inoculated to receive immunizations and tests.

Around 200 employees at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha who deal with critical organs will be affected by the policy.

The Secretariat, the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala), and the East African Court of Justice are the three institutions (EACJ).

During the six-day period, all rooms and other structures at the EAC headquarters will be fumigated and properly cleaned, according to Dr. Mathuki.

He further stated that EAC employees are encouraged to get immunizations and tests to determine their Covid-19 status.

The Tanzanian government, he said, has provided vaccination services to the Community’s personnel at Mt Meru Referral Hospital.

Visits to EAC’s headquarters have also been restricted.
