Msambweni will be Orange for ODM; Senior official says

Hardly a day after candidate Mariam Sharlet threw support to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate for the Msambweni parliamentary, a senior ODM official in Kilifi has said that the the party is going to win the seat. – By Ramadhan Kambi

Speaking in an Interview, Ganze Member of Parliament Mr Teddy Mwambire said the party is prepared to defend the seat and the decision by Ms Sharlet was a clear message that ODM is determined to win.

“ODM is on top of things in Msambweni and I want to assure the electorates that we shall win and retain the seat,” said the MP.

Two days ago, ODM candidate for the seat Omar Boga received a major boost after Ms Sharlet vowed to support him.

Addressing media at Millennium hotel in Diani Ms Sharlet said she had withdrawn from the race to support Mr Boga.

“I decided to join hands with the ODM candidate so that we can fight the common enemy in Msambweni constituency,” she said.

Prior to rejoining the party Ms Sharlet had ditched ODM for Jubilee but things did not work out as the ruling party opted not to field a candidate.

Instead Deputy President William Ruto has since been supporting Mr Feisal Bader, an independent candidate for the mini-poll.

Ms Sharlet. was received back to the party by nominated MCAs Hanifa Mwajirani and Najma Mwandoto.

Currently Mr Boga has isolated himself after contracting Covid-19.

“We welcome team in the ODM camp and from today we will work together in campaigning for Mr Boga until he gets the seat come December 15,” Mwajirani said.

Ms Sharlet said she returned to the party where she belonged.

She said she had never any party rather then ODM and she will vigorously campaign for Mr Boga to clinch the seat that belonged to ODM.

“I’m happy to be back and together with Mr Boga we will accomplish and turn every dream into reality for the sake of Msambweni residents,” she said, assuring supporters and the party’s leadership of her unwavering support for the party.

She denied allegations that she ever left the ODM party, saying she has had no other party than ODM.

“I never authored a resignation letter and I do not know who wrote it,” she said.

The race to replace the late MP Suleiman Dori who succumbed to cancer in March has been reduced to eight candidates.

They include independents Mansury Kumaka, Charles Bilali.

Others are Marere Wamwachai (NVP), Hassan Mwakulonda (PED), Khamis Mwakaonje (UGM) and Shee Abdulrahman (Wiper).
