It is exactly 1 year to the 2022 general elections. Despite this, it is evident that the stand-off over the control of the capital has triggered candidates to tread softly in their quest to succeed Mike Sonko.
Elsewhere candidates have been crisscrossing their counties to advertise their bid to vie for the top seat.
The better part of Mike Sonko’s term was marred by leadership gaps which started with the resignation of his deputy Polycarp Igathe.
The corporate mogul who landed a big position at the Equity bank decried frustrations between the two.
The governor was then suspended from his office after an impeachment motion was leveled against him on grounds of corruption and misuse of office.
Since his ouster, the governor has shunned away from active politics, resorting to fulfilling his dreams through the Sonko Rescue Team initiative.
So far, Senator Sakaja, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, and Deputy Governor Ann Kananu have expressed interest in occupying City hall.
Executive Hand
The candidate who may win the heart of Nairobians will be forced to comply with the agencies at play that includes the Executive, through the NMS.
Ann Kananu, whose candidature is under heavy support from the State House, vowed to work hand in hand with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services.
Since her controversial swearing-in ceremony, the criminologist became a subject of court orders that blocked her ascension.
She has however vowed to go for the top seat despite her inexperience with politics.
UDA will be seeking to front Bishop Margaret Wanjiru for the seat after her prospects were thwarted in the botched by-elections.
As for Sakaja, his chances in securing the seat will be dependent on whether Jubilee will be in one piece, come 2022.
