Nairobi Neighbours on high alert over rise in COVID-19 cases

Counties neighboring the Nairobi Metropolitan area are in high risk of getting infected with Coronavirus if caution is not taken according to health CS Mutahi Kagwe. – By Prudence Wanza.

The CS said the disease has spread out Nairobi and is now in the neighboring counties urging residents to take personal responsibility.

For instance, Machakos has 7 positive cases spread across Syokimau, Athi river, Kamulu, Rubi and Kithunguini. Kiambu has cases in Githurai 45,Dongoru,Thindigua, Tinganga, Waithaka and Wataalam.

Kajiado County has positive cases spread across Ongata Rongai, Kitengela and Matasia while Muranga has cases spread across Gatanga and Lumumba drive.

Kagwe urged such counties to be extra careful to avoid coming in to contact with the disease.

“As Nairobi Metropolitan Counties you have a special responsibility to guard against the spread of Coronavirus.” He said

Out 633 samples, 11 have tested positive for Coronavirus bringing the total number of infections to 281.

7 of them are from Mombasa County particularly in Bondeni and Miritini while 4 are from Nairobi in Ruaka. Only 4 were picked by the surveillance team while the rest were from quarantine centers.

So far Kenya has carried out 13,872 tests. 2,778 have been monitored out of which 2,102 have been discharged while 676 are being followed.

The government in collaboration with AMREF and Rockefeller foundation have launched a special isolation and treatment facility for health workers handling Covid-19 patients.
