A multi-agency team of detectives has successfully dismantled a violent armed gang that had terrorized residents across Nakuru County, recovering an AK-47 rifle and arresting all five suspects linked to the deadly crime spree.
The arrests followed coordinated operations by officers from the DCI’s Operation Action Team, Crime Research Bureau, and Nakuru-based detectives.
Intelligence leads guided the team to the gang’s hideouts, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
After intense interrogation, the officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, serial number 18916, hidden in dry grass near a residential home in the Rhoda area. The rifle was loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
The gang is believed to be behind a string of brutal incidents, including the June 1 ambush on police officers in Nakuru that left one officer dead and two others hospitalized.
In another shocking event in Soilo, the group attacked a 24-year-old shopkeeper, hacking him with machetes before dragging him outside and fatally shooting him after robbing his shop.
The suspects have been identified as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha. They are set to be arraigned on Tuesday, June 3.
DCI Nakuru East confirmed that intensified crackdowns are ongoing, with specialized anti-robbery units targeting known gangs in the region.
Authorities have reassured Nakuru residents that restoring safety and ending criminal reigns remains a top priority.
