Over 4,000 Die From Road Accidents

When compared to the same period last year, there have been more traffic accident deaths this year.

According to a survey conducted by the National Transport and Safety Authority, road deaths increased by 18.5% as of November 30, 2021.

The increase in crashes has been ascribed to reckless driving, risky overtaking, intoxicated driving, drunk walking, drunk riding, and failure to utilize helmets, among other factors.

As of November 30, 4,121 persons had been killed in various accidents, compared to 3,478 in the same period in 2020.

There were 1,413 pedestrians among them. Last year, 1,231 people perished in the same time period.

Pedestrians were killed while crossing roads when they were struck by cars and motorcycles.

The majority of the accidents, according to the NTSA, could have been avoided. “Speeding, lane indiscipline, overloading, risky overtaking, and crossing the road in undesignated areas” are among the causes, according to NTSA’s George Njao.

He predicted that the number of accidents would rise in the coming days and asked everyone to exercise caution.

The group agreed to continue numerous campaigns to address the causes of the country’s accidents, which are claiming the lives of many people and leaving others suffering.

“The cost of an accident is incalculable, and we must confront the disturbing trend.” The Inspector-General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai, stated, “We are here to come up with innovative measures.”

He stated that they will collaborate with other agencies to combat the threat.
