Police have been stationed in Nyatike, Migori County, for undermining the fight against child abuse in the sub-county.
Many police officers, according to Children’s Department Officer Joyce Atieno, have refused to respond to cases of child abuse, while others have interfered with cases.
Other cases of defilement, including one involving a teacher in Muhuru ward, have not been pursued to a conclusion because the police officials in charge of the cases are unwilling to cooperate.
Ms. Atieno said the children’s department has reported the cases to the Teachers Service Commission officers at the grassroots level but still they are not sure if the pupils defiled by the headteacher will get justice.

According to Ms. Atieno, the children’s department has reported the instances to Teachers Service Commission officers on the ground, but they are still unsure if the students who were defiled by the headteacher would receive justice.
Senior police officers in the region, according to Atieno, have been working closely with the suspects to tamper with the cases.
Concerns about police officers undermining the region’s fight against child abuse come just a week after Migori County Children Officer John Odinya expressed similar concerns about police officers tampering with child abuse cases.
