Purma Directors Wanted Over Tax Evasion

Two Purma Holdings limited directors were handed arrest warrants on Monday for failing to appear in court and address allegations of unpaid taxes totalling Sh2.2 billion.

Felix Mutinda Kombo, Chief Magistrate at the Anti-Corruption Court, issued the warrants.

The two, Mary Wambui Mungai and Purity Njoki Mungai, also failed to comply with the Kenya Revenue Authority’s summons on the matter (KRA).

The two are accused of deliberately and unlawfully concealing taxes due in income tax returns filed with the Commissioner of Domestic Taxes between 2014 and 2016.

The court was informed that the two did not come before KRA on December 3, 2021. They instead sent their accountant.

Mungai informed the court of her hospitalization through their lawyer, Syvanus Osoro.

Medical documents, as well as disclosures of illness or hospitalization, were not provided.

“It would appear to the court that the accused are buying time and have refused to confront the complaint levelled against them. The accused to be arrested and presented before court.”
