Ruto resurfaces — Hails Health ministry for handling the Coronvirus crisis

Deputy President William Ruto appeared for the first time in weeks to address the nation concerning the Coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking at his Karen home, Ruto applauded the authorities, led by the President Uhuru Kenyatta, in handling the pandemic. He reassured Kenyans of the commitment of the government to provide the necessary medical equipment to combat the virus.

“The government is working with (Kenya Medical Supplies Authority) KEMSA to stock-pile medical supplies necessary for the management of COVID-19 cases… the public service commission is undertaking recruitment of additional health personnel including 1000 doctors” Ruto said.

He also added that oxygen cylinders and rapid testing kits would be availed to hospitals as part of the measures to carry out mass testing exercise throughout the country.

On the measures put inplace to restrict movement, the Deputy president echoed President Uhuru’s directives, urging Kenyans to work from home.

“Curtailing our movements will completely immobilize this enemy and stop it’s spread, this is why we urge those who can work from home to do so and those who can’t to meticulously exercise social distancing.”

Ruto went on to further to urge employers to adopt shift systems inorder to control the movement of people, and minimize risk of exposing more people.

“Employers should adopt a shift system that enables staff to work at different times of the day or on different days to avoid congestion. Unless necessary, the rest of us must stay-at home.”
