Six Ethiopians In Court Over Illegal Entry

Six Ethiopian nationals have been arraigned at Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi for being in Kenya illegally.

Tekele Woldomo, Eshetus Deeldomo, Tedse Matabo, Abush Desita, Sisdy Desita and Ksihat Desita, all from Ethiopia were said to have been found unlawfully present in Kenya contrary to section 53 (1) and (2) of the Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration Act NO 12 of 2011.

They were arrested at about 1140 hours along Kenneth Matiba Road in Nairobi.

The accused persons could not understand English or Swahili forcing the Court to adjourn the plea taking session to Thursday 6th January 2022 to allow the prosecution to seek an interpreter.

Currently, Kenyan Government is determined to use any available resources to secure its borders against any possible intrusion by terrorists and drug smugglers. 

The case comes some hours after a terror attack that claimed six lives in Lamu region of Kenya.

For over a year now, Ethiopia has experienced Civil war which began in Tigray region of the Country on 3rd November 2020.

The war has resulted in a massive humanitarian crisis, leaving millions in need of food and shelter.

Thousands of citizens are fleeing the region to the neighbouring countries.
