Embattled Nairobi governor to take a fresh plea in the sh357 million corruption case on Monday next week after DPP amended the charge sheet to include anew charge on abuse of office. Sonko abused his office by improperly conferring a benefit to himself by demanding Sh10 million from Web Tribe Ltd through ROG Security Limited.
The money was an inducement to facilitate payments to Web Tribe Limited by Nairobi City County Government. Further Sonko is facing economic crimes, unlawful acquisition of property and irregular payments charges. He is charged alongside Fredrick Odhiambo alias Fred Oyugi, ROG Security Limited and Antony Otieno Ombok alias Jamal – of conspiring to commit an offence of corruption and dealing with suspect property in the sum of over Ksh.14 million in respect of a contract 20 witnesses have been lined up to testify in the case, Justice Ogot further directed that the case will run for 28 days without adjournments and will have five hours each day until its dispensed to conclusion.
The development puts vacates the bargaining plea approach that justice Ogoti had last week advised parties in the Sh357 million corruption case involving the embattled governor to consider.
