Speculation Rife As KU Vice Chancellor Takes A Quiet Leave

Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Kenyatta University (KU) Prof Paul Wainaina will take an annual leave beginning on Monday.

In an internal memo, Prof Wainaina announced that he will be taking accumulated annual leave, and Prof Waceke Wanjohi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) Academics, has been appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor.

“Following consultations with the Univerisity Council, I wish to notify the university community that I will be proceeding on annual leave with effect from 15th April 2024,” reads the memo in part.

Wainaina asked all students to support Prof Waceke as she takes on the duties of the Vice Chancellor.

The memo does not indicate when he will return from his leave.

His last appearance was on Sunday, when the university held a prayer service for the 11 students killed in the Kenyatta University accident on March 18.
