The National Development Implementation Technical Committee (NDITC) wrapped up an inspection of government-funded projects in Mombasa County.

One of the NDITC committee’s two teams led by State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita, visited landmark projects in Changamwe and Jomvu sub-counties.

Nzioka said his team has seen the road’s influence on the efficiency of the Mombasa port’s operations, including improved cargo transportation and the elimination of chronic snarl-ups.

“98% of the construction work has been completed. We appreciate the hard work of our technical team and the contractors. This route has already enhanced freight transportation out of the port as well as traffic between Mariakani, Miritini, Kwa Jomvu, Mikindani, and Changamwe,” Mwaita noted.

Residents impacted by the road construction were guaranteed that the National Land Commission (NLC) and other state agencies would expedite their property evaluations.

They inspected the 43-kilometer Mombasa-Mariakani road project, which features six lanes and multiple intersections, as well as the Sh8.5 billion Mombasa- Kwa Jomvu road project, the Sh15.6 billion Kwa Jomvu- Mariakani road project, and the Sh5.2 billion dualling of Magongo road.

Other projects toured were the Port Reitz road expansion and improvement of Moi International Airport Access roads, all of which were funded by the African Development Bank and the Kenyan government.

The delegation also toured the four-story, state-of-the-art school of medicine at Technical University of Mombasa, which cost Sh266 million to build.
