Ruto: I Havent Talked To Uhuru For Months

On Monday, September 5, the outgoing deputy president stated that he and President Kenyatta had a "several months" communication breakdown.

President-elect William Ruto has stated that he will contact outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta to plan the transition of power.

Ruto will be sworn in on September 13, the first Tuesday seven days after the Supreme Court of Kenya issues its decision on a disputed presidential election.

On Monday, September 5, the outgoing deputy president stated that he and President Kenyatta had a “several months” communication breakdown.

“I will be calling President Uhuru Kenyatta shortly [after this public address]. We haven’t talked for months.”

President Kenyatta backed Ruto’s main rival Raila Odinga in the recent presidential elections.

“I know he (President Kenyatta) worked hard in his own way during the campaigns, but the people of Kenya made their decision. I take no offence at all that he chose to support someone else.”

Ruto praised Kenya’s Supreme Court for upholding his election victory on August 9, saying the decision solidified the credibility of his victory and the conduct of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
