Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela won the women’s triple jump gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday, setting a new world record in the process.
Rojas had already secured the gold medal when she finished the final of her six attempts with a time of 15.67 meters, breaking the 1995 record.
Ukraine’s Inessa Kravets held the record with a time of 15.50.
With her first attempt in the final, Rojas shattered the Olympic record of 15.39. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the two-time world champion took silver.
With a national record of 15.01 meters, Patricia Mamona of Portugal claimed silver. With a national record of 14.87, Ana Peleteiro of Spain took bronze.
