Catholic Bishops Call For Uhuru-Ruto Handshake

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, have been urged to reconcile by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, who believe that their rivalry is endangering the country’s peace and tranquility.

The 23-member conference said in a statement on Wednesday that the repercussions are already raising concern and, if allowed unchecked, could lead to political violence.

According to the Bishops, if the two leaders’ open feud is picked up by their fans, the ramifications across the country will be too terrible to fathom.

“It is an open and sad reality that the President and Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya are not reading from the same script,”  the conference said.

“The public exchanges that are being witnessed are dangerous for the prevailing peace and tranquility in the Country and cannot be taken lightly,”

Former political brothers’ feuds have surfaced in public, particularly as Kenya’s General Election approaches.

The Head of State scolded his deputy in a recent interview, accusing him of criticizing the same administration that he serves yet refusing to ship out, leaving the people perplexed about his position.

According to Uhuru, it is not proper for DP Ruto to pick and choose which government projects he is proud of and which he should avoid.

The DP trying to succeed his boss, on the other hand, has pledged to stay put, claiming that he was lawfully elected and given a mandate by the people.
