Nine people have sustained injuries when a 14-seater matatu rolled at River Tungu in Tharaka Nithi County, along the Meru-Nairobi highway.

Three pupils who were returning to school after the mid-term break were among those injured in the Tuesday incident.

They were brought to the Chuka County Referral Hospital.

No one perished in the incident, according to Tharaka Nithi County fire and rescue team manager Alex Mugambi, although some people were seriously injured.

He claimed that the car, which belonged to Meru Artists Company, was heading from Nairobi to Meru town when one of the front tyres exploded, causing it to deviate off the road.
