Activist Film To Screen On Jamuhuri Day

On Jamuhuri Day, Sam Soko’s documentary about Boniface Mwangi and his wife Njeri will show on television.

Boniface Mwangi and his wife, Njeri, go on a journey when Boniface decides to take a step into national leadership by running for election in the Starehe Constituency, where he grew up.

Despite the fact that Njeri has been aware of Boniface’s involvement, this action has thrown their relationship and their five-person household into unparalleled upheaval.

Softie presents an intimate and poignant depiction of their home life, as well as the price paid when an activist is forced to pick between those who love them and those who don’t know they exist.

Softie was the Opening Night Film at the 2020 Hot Docs Festival and earned the Special Jury Prize for Editing at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

In his feature debut, Sam Soko directs and produces alongside Toni Kamau, who is also credited as a producer.

Executive Producer Bramwel Iro and Impact Producer Miriam Ayoo are also part of the Kenyan team.

Softie is a collaboration between LBx Africa, We Are Not the Machine Ltd, and EyeSteelFilm.
