Alarm over rising infection curve, as Kenya tally spikes to 15,601

Kenya’s daily caseload has hit a new high with 796 cases reported in 24 hours – By Gerald Gekara.

This has pushed Kenya’s coronavirus tally to 15,601 infected patients, and a disease infection rate of nearly 6 percent.

While announcing the latest figures Health CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi took a jab at the public for flouting rules, leading to a spike in COVID-19 cases.

“Time and time again we have requested Kenyans to keep following regulations since most of Kenyans infected with Coronavirus are asymptomatic. There is an element of responsibility that needs to be thought of among Kenyans.”

Nairobi continues to suffer the brunt of the disease, with (539) new cases, Kiambu (63), Machakos (57), Kajiado (37), Migori (26), Kericho (15), Narok and Uasin Gichu (11), Laikipia (9), Nakuru (7), Busia (6), Mombasa (4), Kisii (3), Murang’a and Siaya (2), while Embu, Nyeri, Kisumu, Trans Nzoia each had 1 case.

Total recoveries rose to 7,135 after 378 patients recovered from Coronavirus. Out of this, 199 patients were under home-based care, while 179 were picked from various v hospitals.

Kenya’s death toll rose to 163 after 3 people succumbed to the virus.

CAS Mwangangi also noted a sharp decline in patients attending hospital outpatient services by about 30%. She said the ministry is working on measures to restore confidence among patients.
