Amin Mohamed To Replace Kinoti As The New DCI Boss

Mr Mohamed joined Kenya Police in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector Trainee and rose through the ranks to become a Provincial CID officer in the former Central, Western, and Rift Valley Provinces.

President William Ruto has appointed Amin Mohamed Ibrahim as Director of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Mr Mohamed, the head of the Police Internal Affairs Unit, has over 30 years of experience in criminal investigations and was the best candidate in the interviews for the position of DCI.

Ten officers were shortlisted for the position left vacant by former DCI George Kinoti’s resignation last month.

Detective Nicholas Kamwende, former Anti-Terrorism Police Unit boss Munga Nyale, Mr Bernard Marasa Walumoli, Eliud Kipkoech Lagat; Ms Esther Chepkosgei Seroney, David Kipkosgey Birech, Jonyo Michael Wiso, Paul Ndambuki, and Dr Simon Wanderi, Kenya Railways’ Head of Investigations, were also on the shortlist.

Mr Mohamed joined Kenya Police in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector Trainee and rose through the ranks to become a Provincial CID officer in the former Central, Western, and Rift Valley Provinces.

He joined the DCI headquarters in 2004 as the Head of Investigations and was named Assistant Inspector General, Director of Kenya Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons in 2019.

He was promoted to Senior Assistant Inspector General, Director of the Internal Affairs Unit, in 2020.

Mr Mohamed also oversaw investigations and prosecutions in the former Rift Valley Province following the 2007-2008 post-election violence.
