Nyeri Law Court has sentenced a police officer to seven years in Jail after convicting him of manslaughter.
Chibungu Sanga, the police officer was convicted of shooting and killing a 33-year-old man in his home in Mukurwe Ini, Nyeri County, after a confrontation at a bar in 2016.
After the hearing the court was convinced that although the offence of murder could not survive given the circumstances under which Chibungu Sanga shot the deceased, he was guilty of manslaughter.
The deceased, Kingori Kanyi’s family had however hoped to get a murder conviction against the police officer.
However, Justice Martin Muya ruled that a 7-year jail sentence was fair having considered all factors in the case.
