Covid-19 Cases Bring Humanitarian Crisis in Kilifi County

The surge of covid-19 infections has continued to affect many sectors with less fortunate who largely depend on relief aid.

The worst of it all is that some of the humanitarian agencies have withdrawn their services or downscaled due to the effects of the pandemic.

Further, the emerging of other disasters like the ongoing drought in Kilifi county is one of the setbacks affecting thousands of livelihoods which calls for immediate interventions.

Reports indicate that thousands of vulnerable families have no food and water a situation that will be a double tragedy.

One of the organizations that have been in the forefront to alleviate human suffering in Kilifi county has been the Rotary Club of Malindi that was forced to downscale its programs following the spread of the pandemic.

They have however been forced to come out with measures that will keep the programs aimed at reducing the numbers of Covid-19 in Kilifi county that has been on the rise recently following the daily briefs from the ministry of Health.

Speaking while receiving 6 new members to the club Rotary Club of Malindi President Conrad Masinde said despite the new normal they will have to adapt so that they continue with their programs that stalled during the pandemic.

“We have held virtual meeting and fundraising to construct new toilets at Katama primary school in Chakama and intend to build six new classrooms at the same school that lacked basic structures,” he said

He said due to the challenges at Katama primary school teachers and students could not observe the covid regulations as directed by MOH guidelines.

Masinde said the club is also planting 100, 000 trees as a contribution towards the global 10% forest cover which is one of the pillars of President Uhuru Kenyatta on sustainable development.

“We have also partnered with international organizations like WE MAKE IMPACT an NGO to address the challenges occasioned by Covid-19 especially in Kilifi county that has had the rising number of positive cases,” he said.

Isaac Cohen one of the founders of We Make Impact organization said it’s time for every person on earth to make a positive impact that will make a positive difference despite the disasters that are around them which requires like-minded people to make things happen.

He said Covid 19 has created many challenges all over the world with different areas regions and villages having unique problems.

“We make an impact has come up with education programs that target the grassroots areas in creating awareness and sensitization avenues that will help mitigate the spread and effects of Covid-19,” said Cohen.

In Kilifi county, he said they are targeting boda-boda riders to be trained on covid mitigation towards reducing the surging numbers of covid cases
