Dozens Nabbed In Crackdown On ‘Fake’ Beggars

The Mombasa County Government Inspectorate rounded up and arrested Beggers / Street Families who were dubiously showing fake injuries/impairments to solicit money through sympathy from the Public.

To the shock of the inspectorate, many of the children on the Wheelchairs were all walking after the arrest.

The county also confirmed that many were Non-Citizens from neighbouring Countries coming to beg. Upon further investigations, it was discovered that 7 of the beggars were from Tanzania with no migrant documents.

Of the Tanzanians, only one of those who were ‘crippled’ was confirmed to be indeed disabled. Two children and two adults were pretending to be disabled.

The rest are Kenyans, one with twins aged 5 months and was quizzed for endangering and exposing children to the harsh Weather conditions.

"This is to Send a Strong and Humble request to the Citizens of Kenya and Mombasa; apart from considering Humanity and Religious Beliefs, Kindly don't give Money or Food to People on the Streets. It Encourages them to be There. Think that instead of helping them, you are Endangering Children and Women to Vices."
"Instead, go to Coast General Hospital or any other and help people with Medicines or with Bills; give to Rotary or Lions Clubs and give them for needy projects. Give Money or Food to designated Homes or Orphanages to keep them there until they are absorbed into the Society via correct channels properly."
