Deputy President William Ruto broke his silence on the alleged hate speech allegations made by his ally, Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, on Monday, January 10.

The DP spoke at a prayer gathering at the Bomet Stadium, where he cautioned politicians from his own party as well as leaders from other parties to be careful with their rhetoric when campaigning.

"We (UDA) do not believe in divisive discourse. "Any discussion that profiles individuals, organizations, or communities is unacceptable to us... We want every instigator in Kenya, whether from the UDA or the opposition, to face the law equally so that we can secure our country," Ruto stated.," Ruto remarked.

He went on to warn UDA-aligned politicians to be cautious when soliciting votes and to avoid making comments that could trigger negative emotions.

“Senator Linturi apologizes for a statement he made. He has since apologized and retracted his statement. Going forward, all of us in my team must be conscious of our language and watch what we say in order to bring our country together,” the Deputy President remarked.

Ruto also urged the appropriate authorities to pursue any cases of hate speech and incitement objectively, without taking political sides.
