EPRA Stagnates Fuel Prices

In the monthly review to January 14, the State maintained fuel prices steady, giving motorists and households a reprieve ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays.

In Nairobi, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) kept super and diesel pump prices at Sh129.72 and Sh110.60 per litre, respectively, on Tuesday evening. Kerosene will cost Sh103.54 at retail.

The decision has saved motorists and households money ahead of the holiday season, which is known for its high travel.

"Despite the increase in landing costs, the applicable pump prices for this cycle have been kept at the previous cycle's levels." The Petroleum Development Levy would be used by the government to protect consumers against otherwise exorbitant prices," Epra announced on Tuesday evening.

The gasoline subsidy is used to keep prices stable in the face of public uproar about rising fuel prices.
