Former KPA boss wanted over Ksh. 244 Million corruption

Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has ordered the arrest of former Kenya Ports MD Daniel Manduku over corruption allegations.

In a statement seen by Uzalendo News, Haji also sought the arrest of Juma Fadhili Chigulu over their involvement in procurement for the manufacture of concrete barriers. The alleged works in question were at the inland container Depot, Kilindini Port, and Makongeni Good shed yard without a procurement plan.

“I am satisfied that there is sufficient evidence to support charges for various criminal offenses against the following persons. I, therefore, direct that the above suspects be apprehended and arraigned in court to face the charges against them,” Haji said.

DPP Haji claimed that the requisition for the procurement of the construction works was not made. He also argued that no procurement plan was made for the service.

Despite lacking in these preliminaries, an overpayment of 244 million was made to 10 hand-picked firms.

Mr. Manduku resigned on March 27, 2020 after a dramatic arrest.

The former National Construction Authority (NCA) executive director, was first appointed to the position in an acting capacity on May 30, 2018, replacing Ms Catherine Mturi-Wairi who was sent on compulsory leave by the KPA board due to lack of effective leadership.

“I shall be eternally grateful for the support of all the outstanding individuals who have contributed to what we have achieved over the last few years and to you in particular for your leadership and vision,” read part of the letter to CS Macharia.
