Governor Kingi assures Tobiko of a new Environment taskforce

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said that he will form a team to address environmental issues in the county. – By Ramadhan Kambi.

Speaking in his office during a couretesy call by Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko, Governor Kingi said his administration will engage the local communities in the preservation of the environment which is also key to community development. 

Mr Tobiko was on his way to commemorate the World Wetlands Day at the Sabaki Estuary in Sabaki Ward, Kilifi County. 

He was in the company of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mohamed Elmi together with Esther Murugi from the National Land Commission (NLC) and other state officials. 

“Earlier today, Mr Tobiko in the company of other senior government officials, we together discussed a number of issues touching on mangrove conservation, the salt belt in Gongoni. 

The topic of our discussion also majored on how to maximize on sand harvesting in Kilifi County, while at the same time protecting our environment,” he said. 

“We have also resolved to form a team comprising members of my administration, the Ministry of Environment and the local leadership to address these issues. We will also actively engage Wananchi in sensitization programs as we look to propagate the message on conservation of our biodiversity,” said the Governor.
