Nyamira Governor: Why I Fired My Health CEC

Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has revealed why Health CEC Timothy Ombati was sacked.

According to Governor Nyaribo, Ombati’s actions did not promote confidence in the integrity of the office he was occupying.

In response to Ombati’s unfair dismissal complaint, the County head claims that the ex-CEC distorted the facts and caused him to believe that he was launching a whole shipment of pharmaceuticals valued at more than Ksh.22.4 million.

Nyaribo claimed he was unaware that there were other batches yet to be delivered.

According to the governor, he noticed there was a lack of pharmaceuticals yet to be supplied following an emergency situation at Ikonge Girls Secondary School, where students were hospitalized for various medical concerns and no drugs were available.

Governor Nyaribo said the Department of Health purchased drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth more than Ksh.22.4 million from MEDS, which were to be dispersed among 126 health institutions in the County.

He goes on to add that on July 6, 2023, Ombati reminded him that the shipment was about to be delivered and that he wanted him to commission and commence the drug distribution.

In the case, Timothy Ombati has sued County Governor Amos Nyaribo after he dismissed him from office, claiming that he was fired illegally.

Ombati was sacked from his position as a County Executive Officer over claims of theft of drugs and misappropriation of funds.

However, Ombati through lawyer Danstan Omari says that he was never accorded a fair hearing on grounds warranting his termination, saying that the termination was effected in gross violation of his rights and the principles of natural justice.
