Sonko Files Petition To Remove Rogue Judge

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has filed a suit to have High Court Judge Said Juma Chitembwe removed from his position due to fraud allegations.

On Wednesday, Sonko filed the case at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) offices in Nairobi’s Reinsurance Plaza.

Chitembwe is one of the judges named in covertly recorded films posted on social media by Sonko in recent days.

The circumstances leading up to Sonko’s impeachment, as well as Justice Chitembwe’s suspected involvement in fraudulent dealings in his chambers, are depicted in some of the recordings.

Amana Saidi Jirani, Justice Chitembwe’s purported brother, firmly confesses to being the judge’s bona fide proxy in one of the clips.

On Monday, Chief Justice Martha Koome acknowledged that the JSC had begun a probe into Justice Chitembwe’s actions.

The CJ stated in a statement that Justice Chitembwe would be duly served with the allegations and will have 14 days to respond.

“The JSC agreed, after consideration, that the Petitions be served on the Honourable Judge for his response within 14 days of service,” Justice Koome added.

Following that, a panel appointed by the Commission will review the petitions and Chitembwe’s response.

The panel will present the Commission with its findings and recommendations.
