Tragedy struck on Saturday after a military training aircraft crashed in the Ada area of Ndavaya Ward, Kwale County, killing two soldiers instantly.
Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde confirmed the incident, stating that security teams had been dispatched to the scene to secure the area and begin investigations.
The aircraft, believed to be on a routine training mission, went down in the remote area mid-morning.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing smoke and hearing a loud explosion before the wreckage was discovered.
The identities of the two deceased soldiers have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
The cause of the crash remains unknown. Aviation and military experts are expected to begin a thorough probe once the site is secured.
This tragic event adds to a growing list of recent aviation accidents involving Kenyan aircraft. Just last month, a cargo plane crash in Somalia claimed multiple lives, and a light aircraft accident in Naivasha killed two people.
The spate of incidents has raised renewed concerns about aviation safety and prompted lawmakers to question delays in releasing crash investigation reports.
As the nation mourns the loss of two of its servicemen, questions are being raised about training safety protocols and the airworthiness of military aircraft in active use.
Further details, including findings from the crash investigation and official statements from the Ministry of Defence, are expected in the coming hours.
