Brookside increases farmers pay to Sh28 per liter

Milk processing firm, Brookside has increased pay price for farmers from Sh25 to Sh28.

The move takes after the State-owned Kenya Cooperative Creameries (New KCC), which revised its payments upwards to Sh33.

This is coming as a result of an outcry from farmers over low prices despite the commodity being produced in high quantity in the country.

The head of State recently ordered the National treasury to release Sh 500 million to wipe away excess milk from farmers followed by agriculture CS Peter Munya who also instructed New KCC to pay farmers Sh 33 per liter.

The fund is meant to buy excess milk from farmers and convert it into powder under the Strategic Food Reserve.
