DP Gachagua: If you See Raila Opposing Something, Then It’s Good

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has slammed Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party Leader Raila Odinga for his consistent opposition to the Finance Bill 2023, which includes the controversial Housing Fund.

Speaking in Nyeri on Thursday, DP Gachagua insisted that the bill is good for the country, claiming that all Kenyans of goodwill, with the exception of the Opposition leader, support it.

While stating that Odinga has always been opposed to any ‘good’ proposal for the country, the DP took a shot at the Azimio chief, claiming that the former prime minister is misleading Kenyans.

“Wajumbe wote wa Kenya Kwanza wako nyuma ya rais kwa mambo ya Finance Bill. Yule mtu anapinga ni Raila, na huyo hupinga kila kitu,” he said.

“Ukiona kitu Raila anapinga hicho ni kitu kizuri. Raila akikwambia mkutane Nyandarua, usiende Nyandarua, mngoje Kirinyaga. Yeye ndio anapinga na kukoroga watu.”

At the same time, Gachagua stated that the Mount Kenya region was fully supportive of the contentious bill and that all Kenya Kwanza affiliated MPs would work to ensure it’s passed in parliament.

“Hapa mlimani ni mia kwa mia, ni mmoja tu anapiga kelele na ni sawa, sisi ni watu wa demokrasia; one person is okay to oppose. Here in the mountain is 100 percent …Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nyandarua, Murang’a ni mia kwa mia. Kiambu tuko na 12 na mmoja tu anapinga,” he noted.

The DP’s remarks were in response to Odinga, who has maintained his opposition to the bill, calling it an economic sabotage that will harm taxpayers.

The opposition leader maintains that the bill should be withdrawn, failing which he will lead nationwide protests.
