“I Am Ready to Resign If Orengo Resigns,” Siaya DG William Oduol Affirms

Embattled Siaya County Deputy Governor William Oduol has stated that he is willing to resign if Governor James Orengo agrees to resign as well.

However, Oduol revealed that he was ready to sit down with Governor Orengo and iron out issues.

During an interview on KBC, Oduol stated that he was ready to negotiate with Orengo and end their wrangles affecting service delivery to the Siaya people.

“I will sit down with the governor if he invites me for a talk. I will show him where the loopholes are… to be sealed to avoid wastage of public resources. I will even pinpoint the characters (unnamed individuals) who have stolen the money. Let us sanction them,” he noted.

If the differences between the two were resolved, Oduol argued that he was committed to providing services to the people who elected him.

He also stated that the wranglings were negatively portraying the county, but he chose to unearth the underlying corruption issues in order to save public resources.

Oduol emphasised that he had no intention of resigning from office and warned those who were pushing for his resignation to focus their efforts on fulfilling their mandates.

“I was elected on a joint ticket with Orengo, I can’t resign alone. Section 180 of the constitution sub-section 6 says a governor and deputy governor are elected together under one ticket,” he stated.

As a result, he maintained that his resignation meant Orengo resigned to give the Siaya people another opportunity to elect new leaders.

Concerning the County Assembly’s approval of his impeachment, the deputy governor stated that he was not afraid of the MCAs’ impeachment motion.

“I am not scared by that impeachment, let them bring it on,” he added.

Oduol also stated that he had not received official communication from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party regarding his dismissal.

The deputy governor explained that no reason or substantial grounds justified his expulsion from the ODM party. He insisted he was not acting on behalf of proxies, but on behalf of Siaya residents who elected him.
