Makueni: 90-Year-Old Man Killed, Robbed Off ‘Inua Jamii’ Cash

Police have launched an investigation in Kibwezi, ​​Makueni county after a 90-year-old man was brutally killed by unknown persons and robbed off his money on Tuesday.

Area chief Nicolas Mwonga said the nonagenarian was accosted by unknown assailants shortly after leaving a bank in Metava area, where he had gone to withdraw the money received through the government’s Inua Jamii cash transfer programme.

According to the administrator, the thugs slit the deceased’s throat before getting away with all the money he had withdrawn.

The body was taken to Kambu Hospital mortuary as police continue with investigations into the incident.

The Ministry of Labour’s Inua Jamii programme focuses on orphans and vulnerable children, the elderly, and people with severe disabilities.

Beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii programme are eligible for a monthly stipend of Ksh. 2000 and receive Ksh4,000 bi-monthly.

The government early this week released Ksh8.6 billion for the social protection program targeting 1,072,226 beneficiaries across the country after a four-month delay.
