Three children were burned to death inside their father’s house in Uthini village, Kangundo, Machakos County, on Tuesday night, in what is said to be a land dispute involving the polygamous family.
According to neighbours, the father has been at odds with one of his two wives and has been pressuring her to leave the home.
According to reports, the family met last Saturday and gave the woman notice to leave. The husband allegedly hired goons to forcibly evict her, threatening to demolish her home.
Residents in the area reportedly opposed the man until the latest, when unknown people set fire to three of the man’s houses, including one where children under the age of ten were sleeping.
Kangundo OCPD Zacharia Bitok confirmed the incident, saying that investigations are underway and that the bodies of the three have been moved to the Kangundo Hospital mortuary.
