Mass testing to kick off in Kawangware as Covid-19 cases soar to 396

The ministry of Health on Thursday announced that mass testing will begin in Nairobi’s Kawangware area which has recorded more than 10 cases – By Prudence Wanza

Director General, Ministry of Health, Patrick Amoth said the mass testing will start tomorrow at the highly congested settlement.

Nairobi and Mombasa have been the hotspots of new cases in the country.

Today, a total of 12 new cases were recorded in the country raising the total number of infections to 396.

7 of the new cases were from Mombasa while 3 were from Nairobi. Both Kitui and Wajir had 1 case.

Additionally, 15 people have been discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 144 with Health CAS, Rashid Aman urging Kenyans to keep observing the measures put in place.

“We need to strengthen our resolve against the virus so as not allow any destructions on the gains we have made,” he said

However, 2 more people have succumbed to the disease with the total number of deaths totalling to 17.

So far the government has done 20,260 tests and only 2 patients are in critical conditions with the rest experiencing mild symptoms.

The ministry of Health has also rolled out a plan to have truck drivers tested in Mombasa following the high number of positive cases at border points.

Currently, Nairobi is slowly creeping back to normalcy with traffic and businesses reopening but the ministry warns measures still need to be adhered to.
