Ministry of Health seeks Sh 4 billion to hire interns and volunteers

The ministry of health is seeking an additional Ksh. 4.03 billion to cater for the allowances and training of interns and community volunteers who it plans to hire so as to deal with the high shortage of personnel in the health sector.

In a mini-budget presented before the national assembly committee on health, the ministry said that the money will cater for 4717 interns and the training of 20,120 volunteers.

Division of the funds

  • Sh1.9billion will be allowances for 2717 pharmacists, doctors and dentists on internship
  • Sh268.8million will be for training the volunteers
  • Sh148million will pay allowances for 2000 interns in data collection, surveillance and emergency departments .

The recruitment is expected to be carried out by counties with the help of the national government.
