Supreme court Judge Isaac Lenaola has been named the jurist of the year by the International Commission of Jurists Kenya (ICJ-Kenya).
In a report by the Daily Nation,Lenaola was awarded for being calm, fair, and being a wise member of the Judiciary who helped uphold human vales.
ICJ appreciated the 52 year old judge for consistently, fearlessly and impartially upholding values and ideals that have immensely contributed to the promotion and protection of human rights,the rule of law, justice and democracy in Kenya and the African region.
Justice Lenaola received the award gladly and urged Kenyans to take upon themselves the responsibility of fighting against corruption.
He also touched on the issue of the judiciary budget insisting that courts would only function better if funding was adequate.
“It’s time we took the fight against graft seriously and we must give Judiciary tools to fight it as a country,” said Justice Lenaola
The judge thanked his friends colleagues in the profession as well as his wife for their support.
“This lady has been my pillar and my rock for the last 21 years. She has suffered my absence many time times while am away away on duty,” he said
