Restless And Desperation As Droughts Bites Kilifi County

Residents of Ganze Sub County in Kilifi County are once again suffering food and water scarcity as the country suffers from a drought.

Residents of Shirango, Ndarako, a large part of Bamba, and some parts of Sokoke and Ganze wards are facing severe hunger as nearly all water points have dried up.

A trip by Uzalendo News to several regions of Bamba revealed a deplorable situation, with cattle dying due to a lack of water and grass.

Residents in Shirango village said they had practically lost all of their animals owing to the drought, and the future seems even bleaker.

“We had about 30 cows but they have all died because there is no pasture. Two cows died recently, said Juma Charo, a resident in Shirango.

According to Juma Peku, the locals use dirty water from a borehole which is also not healthy.

“People travel from long distances to this place so that they can get water. It is a tiresome and disturbing process,” he said.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire told Uzalendo News that the situation is getting out of control and asked for more assistance to the region.

“I am happy that President Kenyatta declared drought as a national disaster and I can attest that Ganze is infact suffering its worst situation at the moment. We need a lot of food and water for our people,” he said during an interview in Bale.
