Somali Minister Clashes With British PM

Gamal M Hassan

A Somalia minister has slammed a UK MP who is seeking for the recognition of Somaliland, a breakaway region.

MP Gavin Williamson, according to Gamal M Hassan, lacks facts on the Somaliland problem.

Following an investigation into a leak from a top-level National Security Council meeting, Mr Williamson was fired as defence minister in 2019.

He denied being the source of the information.

On Tuesday, his proposal in the UK parliament to recognize Somaliland as an independent state was postponed.

After the ouster of Somali military dictator Siad Barre in 1991, Somaliland declared independence.

It is not recognized as an independent state by any country.
