Cabinet impressed by speedy Western Bypass works

The Nairobi Western Bypass construction is well within its 2022 timelines, cabinet committee inspecting the works have confirmed. – By Gerald Gekara.

The visit by Cabinet Secretaries Adan Mohamed, Peter Keter and Rachel Omamo was to ascertain the progress in the 16.7 Km road construction.

The road that snakes through Gitaru, Wangige, Ndenderu & Ruaka will connect the Nairobi Northern and Southern bypasses, thereby completing loop to decongest CBD with alternative routes.

China Road and Bridge Construction, the contractor behind the project, will also do 25km of service roads and seven interchanges at Gitaru, Lower Kabete, Wangige, Kihara, Ndenderu and Ruaka.

Ten overpasses and five underpasses will also be constructed, as well as box culverts and stormwater drainage systems at designated areas.

The project has been hailed by locals in the area as a game changer for business and farming that is prominent in the regions.

Traders operating along the bypass will also be benefit from upgraded market stalls and bus stops built as part of the project mandate.

The project is jointly funded by the China Ex-Im bank and the Kenyan government.
