Kenyan Film Mvera Selected For Oscars

Kenya’s feature film ‘Mvera’, directed by Daudi Angaka, has been chosen as Kenya’s entry for the International Best Feature Film category at the 96th Academy Awards.

The film tells the story of an indigenous community struggling with poverty due to corrupt leadership.

The film features prominent actors such as Patrick Owino, Hillary Namanje, Carolyne Rita Mutua, Kibi Salim, Susan Kadide, and Linah Sande.

The Kenya Film Commission announced the selection. The film premiered on September 9 at the Nyali Cinemax in Mombasa and is currently being screened nationwide.

Kenya’s entry into the Best International Feature Film category dates back to 2012, but none have clinched nominations thus far.

The Oscars website states that all active and life Academy members will be invited to view eligible submissions in the category, with the highest-voted films moving on to the next round of voting.

The film is currently being screened nationwide.
