NEMA, Nairobi County Shut Noisy Bars

Following noise complaints from residents, the Nairobi County Liquor Board has ordered the closure of 43 bars and nightclubs.

In a memo issued on Monday, the board stated that despite arrests at the aforementioned clubs, the owners have failed to comply.

“The County Liquor Board has received complaints from various Residents Associations and the general public on excessive noise and vibration on licensed liquour premises,” reads part of the memo.

According to the board, the complaints have also been received by the County Environment Compliance and Enforcement officers despite arrests and arraignment in court, the proprietors have refused to comply and continue to contravene the stipulated licencing condition.

“By a copy of this memo, you are instructed to start the process of cancellation, revocation and closing down the under-listed premises as per the provision of the Nairobi City County Alcoholic Drinks Control and Licvensing Act 2014 in line with section 21(1) and 35(3),” it adds.

The board further advised to co-opt technical teams from urban planning and county NEMA to offer technical advice and support.
