NTSA imposes tough conditions on Modern Coast bus

Earlier today, NTSA, led by Director General George Njao and Modern Coast Express Limited Officials held a meeting to discuss events that led to the fatal crash involving two of the Company’s buses where 7 innocent lives were lost.

After deliberations, several conditions were set out for the Company to comply with before the Authority considers any request to lift the suspension. The conditions are as provided;

1) The Company to comply with all the requirements of the PSV Regulations.

2) 100% inspection of the 85 serviceable vehicles belonging to the Company.

3) The Authority to conduct a road safety training for all the 182 drivers and 93 conductors.

4) The Company to prepare and submit to NTSA all existing road safety policies that govern the Company including a Fatigue Management Policy.

5) Undertake an internal evaluation of the policies and procedures within the Company and submit a report to the Authority within the next 14 days. The evaluation to include findings and observations on irregularities observed in breach of the PSV Regulations. A comprehensive correction action plan with implementation timelines to be provided.

The road safety authority indicated that it will provide all necessary support to enable the Company fulfill the conditions set forth.
