Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his four children have been released from police custody, after paying an Sh45 million cash bail.

Obado and his family were facing a Ksh. 73 Million corruption case.

According to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Governor Obado is facing investigations into abuse of office charges and corruption of public funds, where 16 companies owned by his family members were awarded tenders in various county contracts.

“The investigations were in respect of Kshs. 73,474,376.90 being sums indirectly received by the Governor Migori County, through his children who received multiple payments from companies trading with the Migori County Government between the FY 2013/ 2014 and FY 2016/ 2017” read the statement.

Obado alongside other county officials have surrendered their posts to the court as directed by the Anti-Corruption Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi.

However, due to his restriction to enter his office the Orange Democratic Movement kickstarted a fresh attempt for his impeachment.

“Due to corruption charges leveled against Governor Obado and the decision by the court to bar him from accessing his office, the party in consultations with County MCAs has resolved to have a motion of impeachment against the Governor initiated immediately,” ODM said Tuesday.

Obado is also facing a murder charge stemming from the killing of his lover Sharon Otieno.
