Spurs Are Defending Like A ‘Relegation Team’: Conte

Antonio Conte admits Tottenham are defending like a “relegation team” as they lose ground in the race to finish in the Premier League’s top four.

Conte’s side crashed to a second successive defeat on Thursday after blowing a two-goal lead in their 4-2 defeat at Manchester City.

Fifth-placed Tottenham have conceded 21 goals in their past 10 league matches, with that leaky defence a significant factor in a damaging run of just one win in their past five games.

Tottenham’s defensive frailties were on full display at the Etihad Stadium as mistakes from Hugo Lloris and Clement Lenglet contributed to their dispiriting loss.

Conte is growing frustrated with the blunders and urged his players to make improvements in defence ahead of Monday’s trip to Fulham.

“Progress doesn’t depend on the final result,” he said on Friday. “The progress you see if you start to see the players play with the personality, to start the game with the will and desire to have the ball.

“In other side, compare to last season, we are doing less and to concede 21 goals in the last 10 (league) games, this is usually a team that fight for a relegation zone.”

Having taken a 2-0 lead at halftime, Conte’s team allowed City to score twice in two minutes after the break to kickstart their comeback.

Conte questioned the mentality of his players, who endured a similar poor run last season only to recover to eventually to secure Champions League qualification.

Achieving that goal this season could be a lot harder, with fourth-placed Newcastle five points ahead of them with a game in hand.

“It doesn’t depend on the single part. You attack with the whole team and you defend with the whole team,” Conte said when asked for the solution to Tottenham’s defensive woes.

“We have to improve the spirit, the collaboration, the desire. Maybe we have forgotten to suffer and to understand that if we want to win then maybe you have to suffer like last season.

“I dream, I want to play Champions League. There are 18 games in the Premier League. We need to dream of something important, but at the same time to be realistic.”

Killings and other occurrences have shaken the county, raising public worry.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights dispatched a team to the county to undertake an investigation into the rights violations that had been targeting children, the elderly, and the vulnerable members of the community.

According to the commission, cultism and witchcraft, which have experienced an upsurge in body parts harvesting, have also surfaced as key causes as the inquest unfolds.

Romania Court Extends Andrew Tate Police Detention

Influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan are to stay in custody until 27 February after a Romanian court extended their police detention.

The pair are being investigated over allegations of sexual assault and exploitation and a judge has ruled they will be kept in prison for a further 30 days while police build their case.

The reasons for this extension will be given in a written statement later.

Tate and his brother both deny the allegations against them.

Andrew Tate, a former kickboxer, has millions of online followers – despite being banned from sites including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube for misogynistic comments.

He moved to Bucharest five years ago and was arrested last month after his house was raided.

The authorities claim the brothers have been part of an organised crime group that exploited women by forcing them to create pornographic content.

Lawyers for the Tate brothers argued prosecutors had not presented any new evidence in their application to extend the detention period and had said before the latest hearing that they were “optimistic” that it would be denied.

Former KRA Official Jailed Over Illegal Tax Collection

Milimani law courts Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi sentenced a former KRA officer charged with various counts of obtaining money by falsely pretending his Law firm was authorized to collect taxes.

Peter Muhu Muriuki, the convict is said to have induced Director Scripture Mission East Africa to deliver Ksh 7.8 million to an account belonging to Mungu and Co-advocates by falsely pretending the said Law firm was an agent of KRA and authorized to collect taxes.

He was also charged with uttering a fake Kenya Revenue Authority pay-as-you-earn credit slip to the director, scripture mission east Africa purporting it to be valid.

The court ruled that at the closure of the prosecution case, the prosecution called a total of 12 witnesses all of which successfully identified the suspect.

The suspect did not dispute the allegations that he was a KRA officer and that he misled scripture mission east Africa by stating that his law firm was entitled to collect Taxes.

The court was satisfied that the prosecution had proved their case beyond reasonable doubt and convicted the suspect as charged.

The prosecution urged the court to treat the accused person as a first-time offender since they had no previous criminal records of him.

Robbery Suspects Posing As DCI Detectives Arrested In Ruiru

Last night, after raiding an apartment at Kihunguro in Ruiru, Kiambu County, two suspects posing as detectives were apprehended.

The two who raided a house at Elim Shepherd apartment at around one in the morning had identified themselves as detectives based at Pangani police station.

“The swift response by the Ruiru-based officers caught the thugs by surprise as one of them attempted to fly from the 3rd floor of the apartment only to land on the apartment’s floor with a heavy thud seriously injuring his head,” said DCI.

“Minutes, after the residents made the all-important call, the deafening rumbling sound of the all-terrain police land cruiser, was heard groaning from a Kilometre away vrooooom! ga ga gaga ga! as its wheels crushed against the rocky road leading to the apartment with unrestrained enthusiasm. The roaring sound of the recently acquired beast coupled by its head lights on full beam seemed to have terrified the thugs, who looked for an escape route with little success,” DCI added.

According to DCI, his beleaguered accomplice, who had no chance against the two athletically built, dark, lanky, and menacing new constables, instantly gave up after turning up his phony pistol and police commission document.

As he informed control over the police radio that the two had been successfully apprehended, the corporal in charge of the operation relaxed in the front passenger seat and saw the excellent work of his officers.

“The suspect who sustained serious injuries was rushed to Ruiru Level 4 hospital for treatment as his accomplice identified as Robert Gitonga became a guest of the State at Ruirupolice station,” said DCI.

Two Chiefs, Five Others Arrested Over Edo Train Attack

THE Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, on Wednesday, January 18, announced that seven persons, including two traditional chiefs, have been arrested over the attack on the Igueben Train Station in the state.

He also stated that a combined team of security operatives had rescued all the remaining 14 persons kidnapped in the attack.

The operation was carried out by a Special Force comprised of soldiers, policemen, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), local vigilance members, and hunters, among others.

Nehikhare spoke while addressing journalists after the first State Executive Council meeting of the year.

“We are pleased to announce that the last two victims have been rescued, and seven suspects are in custody, including two village chiefs. We thank the press for the support they have given in the last few weeks.

“The success story in the kidnapping is that seven persons and two village chiefs have been arrested in connection with the incident,” he said.

The commissioner added that security agencies had rescued two persons remaining in the captivity of the kidnappers.

Nehikhare spoke in the company of the Special Adviser to the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie.

The ICIR reported that travellers who were waiting to board a train from Igueben in Igueben Local Government Area of the state to Warri in Delta State were penultimate week kidnapped by suspected herdsmen.

The suspected gunmen, armed with AK 47 rifles, had invaded the train station and shot sporadically into the air before herding an unspecified number of intending travellers into the bush.

In the process, some of the passengers, the state police command had revealed, sustained bullet wounds.

The initial reports were that 31 were persons kidnapped, but the state government later said 20 people were abducted, contrary to earlier reports.

CS Wahome’s Convoy Caught Up In Shootout In Marsabit

The Cabinet Secretary for Water and Sanitation Alice Wahome’s convoy was caught up in a shootout in Marsabit on Friday between cattle rustlers and KWS officers.

The CS was in the county to inspect a project for a water and sewerage system.

The minister had just finished inspecting the Bakuli Dam near Marsabit Forest when her convoy was caught up in a shootout.

The bandits allegedly killed an elderly herder in the Marsabit Catholic Shrine area of Saku sub-county before stealing an unknown number of cattle and goats.

The bandits later fled into Marsabit Forest, where they were encountered by KWS officers.

A shootout ensued, injuring one of the bandits, who escaped with gunshot wounds.

CS Wahome was safely evacuated from the scene and later continued her journey to Marsabit Police Station, where she boarded a flight.

The incident occurred shortly after Marsabit County Deputy Governor Solomon Gubo requested President William Ruto to address cattle rustling.

“Madam Waziri, kindly convey our message to President Ruto and Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to act immediately and combat cattle rustling which has become a thorn in our flesh in this county,” Mr. Gubo said.

Government To Construct Modern Markets In Narok

Traders in Narok County are set to benefit from multi-million modern market projects that are expected to accommodate more traders and improve their business premises.

This was revealed by Narok County Governor, Patrick Ntutu, when he led the Secretary, Urban and Metropolitan Development, Engineer BK Njenga and the Narok County Commissioner, Isaac Masinde, in inspecting major trading centers in the County where modern markets are expected to be put up.

Among the markets visited included Muthurwa and Uhuru markets both at Majengo Estate, Ewaso Nyiro market in Narok Central Sub-county and Ololunga market in Narok South Sub-county.

Governor Ntutu said the move is as a result of the Kenya Kwanza Administration Agenda, where they had promised to empower low earning class first, in their economic model of ‘Bottom Up’.

“I will sponsor the committee in charge of the markets to go for benchmarking in towns with modern markets so that they can advise me on the best market design,” he said.

Other projects the County government in collaboration with the National government are taking to facelift Narok town include upgrading the drainages in town to stop flooding and building a footbridge along the Enkare Narok River to enable smooth traffic and human movement.

The Governor said he will be commissioning the Shs. 100 million bus stop in Narok town soon to dis-congest the town as currently the matatu vehicles drop and pick passengers along the road.

After the commissioning the bus stop, he said, any vehicle found picking or dropping a passenger along the road will be fined by our law enforcing officers.

The Governor said that plans are underway to beautify the town by planting flowers, trees and upgrading the footpaths to carpool tiles to reduce dust in town.

Engineer Njenga expressed satisfaction on the already available land to upgrade the markets and put up a housing project, saying he will send his officers on the ground to design the markets and advise the governor.

He said once the design is agreed upon, they will come up with a budget that will be sponsored by the two levels of government.

The Engineer advised the market committees to visit Gikomba, Githurai, and Chaka among others with modern markets so as to choose the most appropriate design they preferred.

Commissioner Masinde who led the security team expressed gratitude with the new initiative, saying it will boost security in the town as some of the open spaces were hideout points for criminals.

“The Government wants the traders to operate in a clean environment. I ask you to support the projects so that they can be completed within the stipulated time,” said Masinde.

John Kaari, the Chairman of Muthurwa market lauded the government for the great support, saying he has over 600 traders squeezed in temporary stalls.

“We are happy that the government has us in mind. The projects will be of great benefit to us once they are completed,” he said.

Andy Murray Left Fuming As He’s Not Allowed To Use Toilet During Five-Set Marathon At Australian Open

Andy Murray was left fuming after he was denied a chance to go to the toilet in the middle of his five-set marathon against Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open.

The former world No. 1 had battled back from a two-set deficit against Kokkinakis to leave a deciding fifth set between him and victory.

In the break before the final frame, Murray requested to use the bathroom, only to be told by the chair umpire that he wasn’t allowed to as he’d already been once in the match.

“Do you know something? I respect the rules. It’s a joke, it is a joke and you know it as well,” the 35-year-old said to the umpire.

“It’s so disrespectful that the tournament has us out here until three, f***ing four in the morning and we’re not allowed to take a piss.

“It’s disrespectful to you, it’s disrespectful to the ball children, disrespectful to the players and we’re not allowed to go to the toilet. It’s ridiculous.”

2003 US Open winner Andy Roddick agreed with Murray’s complaints, writing on Twitter: “Correct. This is just so dumb.”

It isn’t the first time during this grand slam that restrictions over players using the toilet have made the headlines after Novak Djokovic appeared to take matters into his own hands to take an early toilet break in his first-round victory.

The Serbian asked to go to the bathroom just five games into his match against Roberto Carballés Baena on Tuesday, but the umpire appeared to not hear Djokovic so could be heard saying “hello” three times to get her attention before Djokovic said: “I’m going to the toilet.”

The 21-time grand slam winner ran off the court with the umpire shouting “Novak” after him.

Although the umpire could be heard saying he had 30 seconds to return, Djokovic was back on court before the timer ran out, winning the following game comfortably.

Afterwards, Djokovic denied that he had defied the umpire’s orders as he went to the toilet.

“So she told me (you didn’t capture that with a camera), I had to hurry up. When I almost exited the court, she called me (I didn’t hear) and it was to tell me toilet was on the opposite side of the court,” Djokovic wrote on Instagram.

“I found one where I went also, and I had to be quick because of the time. I didn’t ‘defy’ her or the rules. She gave me permission and told me to be quick.”

The outburst or the inability to go to the toilet didn’t hinder Murray though in the final set as he clinched a famous victory which took five hours and 45 minutes in total – the longest match of Murray’s illustrious career.

The match, which went on past 4 a.m. in Melbourne, was another reminder of the qualities we’ve come to know Murray for: grit, determination and that ‘never give up’ attitude.

Murray will now play the No. 24 seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round.

Google Announces Nearly 12,000 Job Cuts Worldwide

Google’s parent company Alphabet announced about 12,000 job cuts globally on Friday, becoming the latest US tech giant to enact large-scale restructuring.

“We’ve decided to reduce our workforce by approximately 12,000 roles,” Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said in an email to employees, adding that the cuts were in response to a changing “economic reality”.

The move comes a day after Microsoft said it would reduce staff numbers by 10,000 in the coming months, following similar layoffs by Facebook owner Meta, Amazon and Twitter as the previously unassailable tech sector faces a major economic downturn.

“We’ve undertaken a rigorous review across product areas and functions to ensure that our people and roles are aligned with our highest priorities as a company,” Pichai wrote.

“The roles we’re eliminating reflect the outcome of that review.

“The fact that these changes will impact the lives of Googlers weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that led us here.”
