NTSA summons bus companies implicated in bloody Murang’a chaos

Kenya mpya

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has summoned two bus companies that were adversely mentioned by residents in the Murang’a riots. – By Gerald Gekara.

NTSA said that managers of Neo Kenya Mpya Commuters Limited and Joy Kenya Services Limited were called to answer to multiple allegations in relation to their buses.

“In the implementation of the PSV Regulations, 2014 and in consultation with the Inspector General, the Authority has summoned the officials of Neo Kenya Mpya Commuters Limited and Joy Kenya Services Limited to appear before it to provide an insight into the incidents reported to have occurred at Kenol, Muranga County on Sunday 4th October 2020,” read the statement.

In the early morning chaos that was allegedly meant to block Deputy President William Ruto from attending a fundraiser at a local church, one person died.

Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai ordered for the arrest of Alice Wahome and her colleague Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu) over the mayhem that was said to have been staged.

The buses were alleged to have ferried youth to Kenol in Murang’a county, according to the account of one rioter who was cornered by residents.

The Joy Kenya, and Neo-Kenya Mpya company has once again found itself on the spot for the wrong reasons.

The company was recently the center of protests against the killing of one Caleb Omwoyo, a cyclist who was knocked down by a bus belonging to the same company.

“I don’t regret losing my party post,” Ex- ODM official says

owen baya
Kilifi North MP Owen Baya

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya has said that he does not regret his expulsion as Deputy Organizing Secretary from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) because the party ‘has lost’ its ideals on the development agenda for Coast people.

The lawmaker insisted that Coast should form its own political party ahead of the 2022 General Elections.

Mr Baya told mourners in Jilore, Malindi over the weekend that he will remain loyal to the people of Kilifi and Coast in general and added that he was ready to lose his ODM post if that will free the people of the Coast region from the current challenges.

Mr Baya has been the Deputy Organizing Secretary of the ODM party but has since then parted ways with the party to join forces with Deputy President William Ruto.

“I don’t shy from engaging in national politics because there has been a well-orchestrated system where Coast leaders are caged and stopped form engaging in national politics,” said Mr Baya.

The fiery legislator who has already announced that he will vie for the Kilifi Gubernatorial seat in 2022 said he was summoned by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to shed his light on some of his recent actions that are against the party rules and regulations.

“I was called, by both the NEC and the sub-committee were there to communicate the decision to expel me from the party. When I asked the reason for my expulsion, they told me that I had gone against the party leader Raila Odinga over the Revenue Sharing Formula. I told them that if that is the reason for my expulsion then I have no problem about it. Go ahead,” said Mr Baya.

He said that his second reason for expulsion was that he also disputed a statement by the ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho that Coast was economic sufficient and was no longer among the poverty-stricken regions.

“There was a statement that was given out in Taita Taveta that Coast people are no longer poor. Because I represent the people, I am ready to speak the truth about them. I disputed that because it was not right for Governor Joho to mislead Kenyans that Coast is now economically fit while each Coast person knows that we are still suffering. That was the second reason NEC said to lead to my expulsion,” said the MP.

He said that he never applied for the ODM position but was rather given by the party because of his understanding of Coast region.

“I will not be shaken by what is being said or what other people say. I will stand with the Mijikenda nation and the entire people of the Coast region to liberate our region. We shall not remain as slaves,” said Mr Baya.

He added that as Coast people, the approach to 2022 General Elections should be totally different from how they had approached the 2013 and 2017 General Elections.

Manchester United enjoying the most out of VAR

The Portuguese felt that his old side could have no complaints about the decision to send off Anthony Martial going against them in the first half

Jose Mourinho suggested that Manchester United were not in a position to complain about their VAR misfortune after Tottenham routed the Red Devils 6-1 at Old Trafford.

The former Red Devils boss saw his Spurs side ride roughshod over a woeful performance from the home side, who suffered their joint-worst home Premier League defeat in history.

The hosts had snatched an almost immediate lead following a second-minute Bruno Fernandes penalty but the visitors responded in quick succession to take the lead well inside the opening quarter-hour thanks to efforts from Tanguy Ndombele and Son Heung-min.

United’s problems were compounded on the half-hour mark though when Anthony Martial was shown a red card for an apparent retaliation to receiving an elbow from Erik Lamela, in the wake of which Harry Kane piled on more misery with a third goal.

Controversy reigned from the decision, which saw Lamela escape without punishment despite clear replays suggesting he was the instigator, but speaking after the match, Mourinho suggested that his old side were not in a position to complain about the outcome given their own fair share of assists from VAR technology.

“I didn’t watch it. Maybe later I will. If someone can cry about the VAR decisions it is Tottenham and if someone cannot cry about VAR it is Manchester United for sure,” he told Sky Sports

“I don’t know, the only thing I know is we played extremely well. I told my players that a good result here would be to win and we did that.”

The Portuguese was filled with effusive praise for his side’s rampant performance however, who doubled their early haul through second goals for Son and Kane plus an effort for Serge Aurier, hailing it as a “historical” result.

“Manchester United doesn’t lose many matches, [and] to lose by six is of course not every day,” he added.

“[It’s a] historical victory but in the end [it’s] three points and three very important points because we lost five points at home.

“We prepared ourselves very well tactically and also psychologically, the team was ready. So ready that a penalty in the first minute and going 1-0 down did not affect the team at all.

“Some people can say you play against 10 men for a long time which is true but for me it is also true that 11 v 11 we were playing extremely well, we were creating huge problems, we were winning 2-1 and they could not find solutions to control us.”

Dele Alli made his first Premier League appearance since the opening-day defeat to Everton, coming off the bench in the second half having only played a couple of Europa League qualifiers since the loss to the Toffees.

The England midfielder had been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain but Mourinho insists Alli has always been part of his plans.

“He has never stopped showing, I always said that I never had a problem with him. Very polite, very educated, always behaving well. He is training well, sometimes I want different things from him on the pitch,” he further added.

“That is more about his qualities as a player than other things. He is a fantastic player as everyone knows.”

Clueless Klopp in worst career defeat

By Henry Kimoli

A Sunday of long knives was unveiled in the Premier League. Premier league’s most successful teams were humiliated.

Manchester United hit 6-1 by Tottenham and Liverpool hammered 7-2 by Aston Villa.

In both cases, the lovers were outplayed, outmaneuvered, outthought and vanquished their worst defeats for both managers Old Gunner Solskajer and Jurgen Klop.

Liverpool shambolic defense was exposed by a vibrant Aston Villla side, raising concerns that Virgil Van Dijk is no longer the best Premier league defender.

Next, Liverpool meet their noisy neighbors Everton, the runaway leaders under the indefatigable Carlo Ancelloti. The Liverpool machine looked rusty, without the Covid-19 illness to Sadio Mane. And for the first time, Jurgen Klop looked clueless.

If the performance of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea is anything to go by Everton may as well win the league.

Editorial: Deal firmly with Murang’a violence idiots

The violence in Muranga that left one person dead and scores injured was not unexpected. – By Gerald Gekara

What with the chaos in Jubilee and the cold, bitter war between DP William Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Jubilee mess is their business. But the killing of an innocent Kenyan is not.

Kenyans careless about the implosion and confusion in Jubilee. But when it becomes a threat to national unity and blood shed, accountability must be assumed.

Our position is clear: no live must be lost because of politics. Whoever killed this youth must face the full force of the law.

This includes whoever paid for the artificial demos and the group that retaliated.

It must be stated here and now that the DP Ruto, or any other leader is free to visit any part of Kenya without hindrance.

Any other Kenyan for that matter must be free to roam the breadth of Kenya with police protection.

To deal with this stupidity once and for all, we expect stern action against all concerned, including the Police officers at whose jurisdiction this crime was committed.

This country must be rid of idiots who fan animosity for the sake of political aggrandisement.

Leaders rally behind Brigid Kosgei after heroic win

World record holder Brigid Kosgei ran an appalling performance to retain and clinch her second London Marathon title, at a record time of 2:18:58.

Leaders poured their congradulatory messages to the young marathoner.

Deputy President William Ruto congradulated Kosgei and her co-runner Ruth Chepng’etich who came third.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei & Ruth Chepng’etich for triumphantly defending your London Marathon title & emerging third in the race, respectively. Your endurance, mental strength, will-power & assiduity are a solid manifest that Kenya is home to the world’s top-ranking athletes.” DP Ruto said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga praised the record holder for retaining Kenya’s claim for long distance races.

“What an outstanding run, congratulations Brigid Kosgei on successfully defending your title and winning the #LondonMarathon. You have lived up to the strong Kenyan tradition in distance running. Keep going and keep inspiring. Hongera!” Raila said in a statement.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said the win was an inspiration to young women in the country who desired greater achievements.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei for successfully defending your title at the #Londonmarathon2020 . Not only have you made Kenya proud, but continued to encourage young women who desire to achieve beyond their limits. It’s a world full of possibilities.” Anne Waiguru tweeted.

“Congratulations Brigid Kosgei for winning the 2020 #LondonMarathon Elite Women’s Race. Great applause to Ruth Chepng’etich for emerging third in the race. Proudly Kenyan” Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho tweeted.

Ndindi Nyoro says Kibicho, Matiang’i organized Murang’a violence

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has fingered a meeting held at the Thika Greens Resort last week, as the operations center that planned the Sunday morning chaos.

Nyoro named Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege, Mathioya MP Peter Kimari and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i who he believes were behind the AIPCA chaos.

“I want to tell you, Mheshimiwa Kimari, na wewe Kibicho, na wewe Matiang’i, na wewe Sabina Chege na hao wakora wengine, mko na watoto wenu, next time leteni watoto wenu na bibi zenu waandamane,” Nyoro said.

He added that several leaders were sent money to disrupt Ruto’s visits.

“We know, the money was picked from the office next to yours naibu wa rais, the ministry of interior and insecurity, they tried that in Kisii, they failed, they have tried it here, raia imekataa,” Nyoro added.

Kandara legislator Alice Wahome said she tried calling Murang’a County Commander Josphat Kinyua over the planned violence.

“I called him three times, he did not pick, I wanted to tell him I was aware of the planned protests, he did not call back,” Wahome sad.

Several vehicles turned back to avoid the chaos, while other videos showed two groups of youth pelting each other with stones.

According to Kenol residents, 5 buses ferrying youth to the church event were spotted on Sunday morning. The buses were believed to have come from Nairobi and Thika.

“They were in five buses, and we have never seen them before, they came in and started lighting tires on the road,” a witness told Inooro TV.

One Dead as Ruto Murang’a visit turns bloody

The fallout between DP Ruto and President Kenyatta spilled over to Murang’a county where a man died during fracass ahead of a church funtion. – By Gerald Gekara.

Trouble started when word went round that the DP was to conduct a fundraiser at a church in Kenol. Property of unknown value is also said to have been destroyed.

A woman identified as Mercy Wangui who was cornered by the residents claimed they had been paid Ksh. 1,000 to disrupt DP Ruto’s meeting.

She said she was among several others who had come from Thika and Kiandutu on orders to to disrupt DP Ruto’s event. However, she didnot disclose who paid them.

The youth allied to a GEMA group, opposed to DP Ruto’s presidency, barricaded the busy Kenol – Sagana Road to prevent Ruto from accessing the venue.

During the fracass, rival youth clashed using crude weapons as police watched. It is not clear who the dead youth was supporting.

Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe has vowed to lead the ejection of the DP from Jubilee, and declared that the GEMA community will not support a Ruto presidency.

On Friday, Secretary General Raphael Tuju accused DP Ruto of orchestrating a coup in Jubilee, in the absence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Priest accuses Jubilee of fanning political animosity

The Father in-charge of the Holy Family Basilica Reverend John Kamomoe has accused politicians of driving animosity among Kenyans. – By Henry Kimoli.

Father Kamomoe said utterances made by politicians were flaming political hatred and appealed for cessation of the rhetoric.

Lately, Jubilee factions have traded harsh words over the breakdown in relations between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto.

The irreparable differences are seen as the reason the DP refused to attend a high profile Covid-19 mitigation event despite being invited to attend.

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has accused DP Ruto of executing a coup in the party at a time when the President was out of the country.

The President has steered clear of the Jubilee implosion, instead saying that his utmost mission is to unite the country.

Effectively, this has confirmed that President Kenyatta will not back DP Ruto as his succesor in 2022.

Instead, he prefers to drive a change of constitution agenda that will be more inclusive to the political needs of the country.

Father Kamomoe was speaking during the celebration of the 27 ordinary Mass in of the Catholic Church calendar.

The Rev. Fr. Fernandes was the lead celebrant at the Holy Family Basilica Mass covered live on Facebook by Uzalendo news. He called on Christians to uphold their faith.

Deacon Charles Wachira proclaimed the Gospel during the Holy Mass celebration.

For the first time since March, there was free sitting at the Church. No social distance was observed.
